FSSAI for Mobile Food Businesses
Food trucks, pushcart vendors, mobile catering units and any other mobile food operation are fully subject to FSSAI regulations. The mode of operation does not exempt you from licensing requirements.
Which Category Applies?
Most food trucks and mobile vendors fall under Basic Registration if their annual turnover is under ₹12 lakh. For food trucks with higher turnover — common with popular brands — a State License is required.
Unique Considerations for Mobile Units
- The license is tied to the registered business address, not the vehicle
- If you operate from multiple locations, the primary registered address is what goes on the license
- Vehicle-mounted operations still need a fixed kitchen or preparation base address
- Multiple food trucks may each need separate registrations if they operate independently
Documents Required
- Aadhaar or PAN Card
- Photograph of the owner
- Address proof of the fixed base or commissary kitchen
- Vehicle registration certificate (optional but recommended)
- Form A (for Basic) or Form B (for State License)
Practical Tips
Keep a laminated copy of your FSSAI registration displayed prominently on your food truck. Health inspectors and municipal authorities may ask to see it during routine checks.
